Help us improve PlaceNest

May we use optional analytics, with PlaceNest's own cookies, to understand how visitors use PlaceNest? You can change your choice anytime. Privacy details

Measurement choices

Measurement is optional: nothing is measured in your browser unless you choose “Allow analytics” below or in the short invitation shown on your first visit.

Checking your measurement choice…

What measurement is for

To estimate how many people visit the website, how they find it (the website that linked to us and campaign codes in the link), which pages are used and for how long, and how searches and listings are used — so we can improve the service. It is first-party: the cookies are set and read only by PlaceNest, and no advertising network, analytics provider or social-media platform receives them or the records.

Visits: for each page we record its general address (with record numbers and anything after “?” removed), the referring website's name, campaign codes, whether it is your first recorded visit and how long the page was actively used. If you create an account during a measured visit, we also record that an account was created in that visit — the visit record never says which account.

Searches, listing views, enquiries and applications: we record that a search was made, which kinds of filter were used and a size band for the number of results — never the suburb or anything else you type — that a listing was viewed, and that an enquiry or rental application was sent about a listing (only the listing, its marketplace and State — never what you write or attach). If you are signed in, these records carry a scrambled reference instead of your identity, never your name or e-mail address.

Campaign attribution: where PlaceNest uses it, if you create an account, an advertisement, an enquiry, a rental application or a service request during a measured visit, we also record the campaign of your browser's first measured visit to PlaceNest (its campaign codes and the general page it opened) against that record; a visit made before you chose “Allow analytics” is never used, and neither is a visit measured before this was added to the Privacy Policy. Responses from service providers to a service request are counted against the same campaign. We never record the link's click identifier, and never do this for PlaceNest staff or test accounts.

Choosing “No thanks”, or making no choice, means no visit, page or usage measurement and no campaign attribution. PlaceNest still keeps the records it needs to run the service and counts its accounts, advertisements, enquiries, applications and service requests as totals only, without measuring how you use the website.

Your IP address and browser details are used momentarily to filter out automated traffic and to limit abuse; they are never stored with the measurements.

Cookies

These cookies are used only if you choose “Allow analytics” (the choice cookies record the choice itself).

How the identifiers are stored and kept

We do not store the cookie values or your account identity. We store a scrambled form made with a secret key held by PlaceNest. This is a pseudonym, so the records are not anonymous: with the key and your browser's cookie, or your signed-in account, the records can be linked back to you — which is exactly how “Stop measuring” finds and deletes them.

Visit and feature-use records are kept for 395 days (about 13 months) and then deleted automatically. Reports show totals only, and small numbers in breakdowns (for example by page, source or campaign) are not shown.

Campaign records attached to an account, advertisement, enquiry, rental application or service request are kept for as long as that record and are deleted with it, or earlier when you choose “Stop measuring” while signed in.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, PlaceNest never measures your visits or feature use. “Allow analytics” cannot override the signal, and is not offered while it is sent.

Who measures and how to contact us

PlaceNest does this measurement itself; no other company measures for us. Contact: support@placenest.com.au.

This page and the first-visit invitation explain measurement only. They supplement, and do not replace, PlaceNest's Privacy Policy.
