Privacy and safety

Who can see an exact address and contact details, how addresses are shared inside an application, how documents are kept private, and how to report a problem.

Address and contact privacy on advertisements

An advertiser answers three separate questions: whether to show the exact street address, their direct contact details, and their name to signed-in PlaceNest members. Each answer defaults to No.

Logged-out visitors
Never see the exact address or direct contact details. They see the suburb and an approximate location only.
Signed-in members
See the exact address, contact details or name only if the advertiser chose Yes for that item, and only while the advertisement is live.
The map
Shows an approximate location in the suburb, not the exact address.
Messaging
Even when contact details are hidden, people can still message the advertiser through PlaceNest.

Relisting, making an advertisement available again or renewing it after it expires resets all three answers to No.

Addresses inside the application workflow

In the application workflow, people who are authorised to take part see the property address alongside the PRP, ADV and APP references, so everyone knows which property is involved.

  • The advertiser and authorised reviewers see it.
  • The applicant sees it once the application is submitted, not while it is a draft.
  • An invited reviewer sees it only after they accept the invitation and the applicant agrees to share the application with them.

Good to know: This does not make the address public. The public advertisement keeps its own address privacy setting.

Keeping documents private

  • Supporting documents on an application can be opened only by you and by the reviewers who see your full application (never by an existing tenant or current tenant who sees a summary only, and never by an invited person before you agree to share). They are deleted with your application.
  • Tenancy documents are visible only to the parties to that tenancy. They have no public links and are never attached to e-mails.
  • Location data is removed from photos uploaded to tenancy documents and provider logos.

Important: Only upload what is genuinely needed. Never upload passwords, card numbers or online-banking details. Redact account numbers and unrelated bank transactions before you upload.

What PlaceNest does not verify

Important: PlaceNest does not verify ownership, agency, landlord or managing-agent authority. Advertiser roles are shown as stated by the advertiser; not verified by PlaceNest. Accepting an invitation only confirms the person controls that e-mail address.

  • Agencies shown on advertisements are not verified.
  • Service providers' licences, insurance and business details are not verified.
  • Be careful with anyone who asks for money, a bond or personal documents before you have inspected a property or checked who they are.

Reporting a listing, a lister or a message

  1. Sign in.
  2. On a rent or share advertisement, choose "Report this listing" or "Report the lister". On a parking or lease transfer advertisement, choose "Report the lister". On a message, choose "Report".
  3. Pick a reason, such as scam or fraud, misleading listing, harassment or impersonation, and add details if helpful.
  4. Submit. A moderator will review it.

You cannot report your own listing, account or message. If you have already reported something, it stays in the queue for review.

Getting help with a safety concern

Contact Support and choose the "Safety concern" category. Quote any references you have, such as ADV or APP numbers. Do not include passwords, security codes or card details.

Important: If you are in immediate danger, contact emergency services on 000.
