Accounts and security
- Do I need an account to browse?
- No. You can browse and search without an account. You need to sign in to enquire, apply, advertise or post a service request.
- Does PlaceNest store my password?
- No. Sign-in is handled by a secure, managed sign-in service.
- How do I turn on two-factor authentication?
- Open Security from the account menu and select "Set up an authenticator app". It uses a 6-digit code from an authenticator app; SMS is not used.
- I lost the phone with my authenticator app.
- Two-factor authentication cannot be turned off from your account. Contact Support with the "Account / access" category; after confirming your identity, an administrator can reset it.
- Will PlaceNest ask for my codes or password?
- Never — not by e-mail, phone or in a support request. Do not share them.
Advertising a property, room or parking space
- What do I need before I can publish?
- A saved profile with a display name, and private contact details (phone and e-mail) on your profile. They are never shown to logged-out visitors.
- Is my exact address shown?
- Only to signed-in members, and only if you choose Yes for that advertisement. Each privacy choice defaults to No. Logged-out visitors see the suburb and an approximate location only.
- Where can I advertise?
- PlaceNest operates across Australia — every state and territory.
- Can renters apply for a parking space?
- No. Parking uses enquiries and messages, not applications.
Searching
- Where do I search for each kind of place?
- Rent is for whole properties and Share for rooms. Lease Transfer and Parking have their own searches.
- Why does the map not show the exact location?
- The map shows an approximate location in the general suburb area, not the exact address.
- Can I see places that have gone?
- Yes. A separate view shows places that were recently leased.
Enquiries and messages
- How do I contact an advertiser?
- Sign in, open the advertisement and select "Send enquiry". It starts a conversation; replies appear in Messages.
- Why can I not enquire about an advertisement?
- You can only enquire while it is live and available, and not about your own advertisement.
- Who can read a conversation?
- Only the two people in it. It stays available after the advertisement closes.
- Someone did not get an e-mail from PlaceNest.
- "Sent" means the e-mail service accepted the message; PlaceNest cannot confirm it reached the inbox. Ask them to check their junk folder.
Applications and inspections
- Which advertisements can I apply for?
- Rent and Share advertisements have "Apply for this property". Lease transfers have "Apply for Lease Transfer". Parking has enquiries only.
- Does PlaceNest choose the successful applicant?
- No. PlaceNest does not rank or score applicants; the people involved make the decisions.
- Is an approval a signed lease?
- No. An approval or selection in PlaceNest is not a signed tenancy agreement, a bond payment or a transfer of a tenancy.
- Can I book an inspection through PlaceNest?
- Inspection times are shown on the advertisement in Canberra local time, but the lister does not take bookings through PlaceNest.
Video meetings
- How do I schedule a video meeting?
- Select Schedule meeting on Meetings and choose one of your property or Services enquiries, or open the conversation in Messages and select "Schedule a video meeting". The other person in that enquiry is invited and can accept or decline.
- What if a Services enquiry is closed?
- No new meetings can be scheduled and the time cannot be changed. A meeting already arranged stays unless it is cancelled.
- Can I change the time or cancel?
- The person who scheduled it can change the time or cancel it. A new time needs to be accepted again.
- Why is Join not available?
- Join opens 10 minutes before the start and closes 15 minutes after the end. Video calls are not available everywhere yet; where they are not switched on, Join does not start a call.
- What time zone is shown?
- The time zone chosen when the meeting was scheduled, with its name (for example AEDT). Calendar files show your own time zone.
- Where do I see meeting invitations?
- Under Meetings, in "Waiting for your answer", and in the conversation. PlaceNest does not send invitation emails, texts or push notifications.
- Can I share my screen?
- Only during a video call, where video calls are switched on (not everywhere yet). Your browser asks first, one person presents at a time, and PlaceNest never records your screen.
- Are meetings recorded?
- No. PlaceNest keeps only the meeting time, who was invited and their answers.
- Who can see a meeting?
- Only the two people in the enquiry. PlaceNest staff see counts only.
Agents, agencies and the CRM
- Does choosing "I'm a real-estate agent" give me agency access?
- No. Profile roles are preferences only. They are not verified and give no access to any agency or property.
- Are agencies or landlords checked?
- No. PlaceNest does not verify ownership, agency, landlord or managing-agent authority. Who is advertising is shown as stated by the advertiser.
- What is the CRM?
- A workspace where agency members keep track of contacts, leads, notes, interactions and tasks. What each member sees depends on their role in the agency.
- Does the CRM connect to other systems?
- Not yet. No external CRM, portal or social-media connection is available.
Home services
- How do I find a service provider?
- Post a service request; providers can respond to open requests.
- Are providers checked?
- No. PlaceNest has not verified service providers' licences, insurance or business details.
Privacy and safety
- Who can open my application documents?
- Only you and the reviewers who see your full application. They are deleted with your application.
- What should I never send or upload?
- Passwords, card numbers or online-banking details. Redact account numbers and unrelated transactions before uploading.
- How do I report a suspicious advertisement or message?
- Sign in and use "Report this listing", "Report the lister" or "Report" on a message, pick a reason and submit.
- Does PlaceNest use advertising trackers?
- No advertising or social-media tracking pixels are used.
Important: Be careful with anyone who asks for money, a bond or personal documents before you have inspected a property or checked who they are.
Technical problems and getting help
- I am asked to wait before sending more messages.
- If you send many messages quickly, PlaceNest asks you to wait a short time before sending more.
- How do I contact Support?
- Use Contact Support. Quote the relevant reference (for example ADV, APP or SUP) so Support can find the record.
- Can I pay rent or a bond through PlaceNest?
- Not through the marketplace today. An approval in PlaceNest is not a bond payment.
